Foster Grandparent Program:  The Foster Grandparent Program at Central Valley Regional Center establishes person-to-person relationships between limited income adults, 55 years of age and older and children receiving services from the Regional Center. The Foster Grandparent Program is funded in part by the California Department of Developmental Services and by AmeriCorps, a federal agency connecting individuals and organizations through service and volunteering to tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges.  Our Foster Grandparent volunteers serve students with special needs throughout the school year in their classroom environment, while sharing a lifetime of experience and providing opportunities for them to more fully participate in school.

Senior Companion Program:  The Senior Companion Program at Central Valley Regional Center shares the same philosophy and goals as the Foster Grandparent Program.  Our Senior Companion volunteers serve adults with special needs who are 21 years of age and older in licensed residential homes, adult day care/health centers and day programs.   Senior Companion volunteers serve year round, while sharing a lifetime of experiences and providing opportunities for socialization, integration and inclusion.

The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Program benefits include:

  • Pre-service orientation/training
  • Monthly training
  • A tax-exempt stipend each month
  • Daily meal and travel allowance
  • Annual recognition
  • Opportunities for socializing and fun!
